Johnson & Johnson Pharmaceutical Research & Development, L.L.C., a member of Johnson & Johnsons Family of Companies, is recruiting for a Senior Director Experimental Medicine located in Spring House, Pennsylvania. Johnson & Johnson Pharmaceutical Research & Development, L.L.C. develops treatments that improve the health and lifestyles of people worldwide. Research and development areas encompass novel targets in neurologic disorders, gastroenterology, oncology, infectious disease, diabetes, hematology, metabolic disorders, immunologic disorders, and reproductive medicine. This position will be Sr. Director Experimental Medicine - Disease Area Clinical Expert focused on Metabolic Disordersto function as the Clinical Expert for Diabetes, Metabolism and Obesity. This role will co-lead strategy development and process creation to ensure a balanced portfolio within drug development for the Metabolic Disorders therapeutic area. As a member of the Metabolic Disorders Leadership team, will oversee output, quality project work and portfolio progress while decreasing attrition; interface with senior management as well as functional areas across the RED; manage budgets; ensure smooth transition of projects from early discovery to early development. The position will contribute to the early development of biomarkers for specific targets and/or diseases in close collaboration with other members within the therapeutic area and in/outside experts; as well as oversee the clinical trial design to qualify biomarkers. This position will serve asasupervisor for staff managing compound development projects in the metabolics area, supervising programs from entry into early development throught phase IIa or proof of concept. This includes phasing and designing the clinical early developmentstudies. In addition, the successful candidate will be the strategic leader for developing and applying novel methodologies including biomarkers, surrogate endpoints and other novel technologies (including medical imaging and pharmacogenomics) in a timely way to expedite efficient and fast decision making in early development. In some cases, the he or she will act directly as clinical scientific guardian, owner and spokesperson of certain compounds while in early development; including serving as safety physician fornon-MD Clinical Scientists. He/she will be responsible for the transition of knowledge and data within compound development team when compounds enter later stage development.
Qualifications
Board Certified or Board Eligible MD in Endocrinology, Internal Medicine or related area with clinical/academic background in Metabolic Disorder is required with a minimum of 5 years industry or academia experience is required A strong understanding of the drug development and clinical trial process in the pharmaceutical industry, based on experience in pharmaceutical/biotech company or CRO, including management of international clinical development programs is required. Consideration will also be given to candidates in academia with the appropriate scientific credentials (including substantial experience working with industry) and a strong motivation to move into the industry. A proven track record in clinical R&D in relation to compounds for Metabolic Disorder indications, with emphasis on early phase development - i.e. FIM to Phase IIa is necessary. An understanding of basic Metabolic Disorder pharmacology is required. Experience in translational research is strongly preferred, and ability to communicate effectively with discovery scientists. Excellent interpersonal, negotiation and communication skills required. Must be a team player with excellent interpersonal and influencing skills and the ability to interact effectively with a wide range of people across seniority, functional and cultural boundaries; Excellent networking and relationship-building skills required, together with a well-developed network among opinion leaders and specialists in the field of Metabolic Disorder in Europe and the US. Position also requires the following skills: strategic vision combined with a hands-on approach; strong communication (written and verbal) and presentation skills; strong delivery focus and high levels of drive and commitment.
