Location United States - New York - New York Requisition # 91699BR Position Type Intern Posting Job Description People.com/People Magazine is currently digitizing its entire archive, 1974 to present, to be launched online at the end of the year. We are seeking 3-4 academic interns/independent study students for the Spring semester (MLS or similar) who are interested in learning about metadata, tagging, XML and content management systems. Candidates must also have an enthusiasm and knowledge of celebrity news and pop culture. This is unpaid, 10-14 hours a week, but can be used for credit. Metadata duties primarily include tagging People Magazine articles and covers in our content management tool (CMS); adding hyperlinks to articles; mapping and building relationships between celebrities in our back end CMS; QA of the magazines XML text; performing searches of articles and compiling them into themed groupings. Editorial duties may include writing and editing of headlines and decks for the themed article groupings; building pages in the CMS; building cover galleries in the CMS. Desired knowledge/skills: basic XML; general understanding of content management systems; Adobe Acrobat. We will train you, but prefer people who are extremely computer savvy (familiar with a wide range of computer programs), have long attention spans, and who can produce a lot of work in a short amount of time.
