You guys decide what you want to appear there, subject to knowing how Usenet works. I'm at a meeting and email me the final result for consideration. If nothing else, check out what other news groups do. A handle. The question is what's your understanding of Usenet? Usenet is merely storage (temporary on most news servers). Groups come in 2 types: moderated and un-moderated (the original). For as long as mailing lists and news groups existed there have been discussions on free speech. Do we have moderators/gatekeepers or editors? Or do we (the users) inhibit ideas solely on the basis of say bad spelling, grammar, etc.? This is why the alt.* groups got started (slight different policies). >I assumed that the postings would be >about climbing, as opposed to oppressive tactics used by the secret >police, the Beatles causing the decline of civilization, and blatant >non-climbing commercial plugs. My mistake... Then post about climbing. Ask about climbing topics. Don't just sit back and let "them (articles) come." Generate content. All this is is storage set aside for people to use. It's a certain amount of community disk space which has policies on how long it will sit on parts of the net. >> >> [About off-topic postings] Don't confuse mechanism from content. Understand the group mechanism. The storage gets recycled. Usenet over time has evolved a set of tools like Killfiles, cancel signals, etc. All these tools should be understood, used, etc. --

I've got to try to reach the Steel Monkey. I will watch the rate of climb meter. Aerial recon for climbing locations as well. Maybe we will spot Fossett. We will climb (and descend) at optimal speeds. Many many airfields. Much interesting geology. Minimal carbon based lifeforms. So far no X-mas card quality photos, yet. So no X-mas cards. We'll defer skiing and climbing with hands and feet until the new year. Give priority to the other kind of climbing. --
