I ended up returning them to REI, with my receipt, after joking with someone there about my fit problem. They said to bring them in, no problem. REI is good. In fact, there are a lot of retailers now who will guarantee fit, and for expensive boots, it's a good idea to buy from someone who will take them back after a year or whatever if they don't work.
