So I am basically camping in this tiny studio apartment while on this consulting gig in CT. My furniture consists of a folding table and two camping chairs. Last night I went to a holiday party here at the apartment complex and met a nice woman who offered to donate some old furniture to me (with the promise that I would donate it to a charity when I was done with it). In return, I am giving her a copy of Ubuntu 7.10 for an old Windows system that has suffered bit rot. She had heard about Linux and is interested in trying it out. Sounds like she is moving to Mac for her audio and video editing, but Linux might still breath new life into her PC as a net surfing station for the rest of the household. Thad -- Yeah, I drank the Open Source cool-aid... Unlike the other brand, it had all the ingredients on the label.

She offered the furniture before we even got on the topic of Linux, and I will gladly give someone an Ununtu CD with nothing expected in return. I'm just glad I found some friendly and interesting neighbors. My furniture supplier is a local musician that dabbles in video production, so we had a lot to talk about. I was especially surprised to learn that she had heard of the band Beatallica (friends of mine that I've mentioned here before). It turns out they've been getting radio airplay, have a CD in the stores, and have even played here in Connecticut. I think right now they are touring in Europe again (they are really popular in Germany evidently). I'm really happy for them... but I'm guessing it means they won't be playing at my Halloween parties any more. Thad -- Yeah, I drank the Open Source cool-aid...
