I'm installing Sybase ASE 15 on a linux redhat 4. The setup requires that I set certain environmental variables for the server to work. There is a .sh file which I'm supposed to run. When I do run it nothing happens, and I'm unable to start up the server. However if I copy the contents and paste them into console window the variables are set and the server starts up normally...untill I logoff or reboot. Any way of setting these vars permanently so that they show up when I run the ENV command. thanks

Others use shell specific setup files in /etc such as /etc/profile or /etc/bashrc or you can put them in the home directory of your account in .profile, .bashrc, .login, etc. RTFM for the shell you use. type 'ps' if you're not sure what you're running.
