The percentage of POOR seniors is probably LESS than the percentage of poor
NON-seniors, yet there are few subsidies available to poor NON-seniors.
Students, yes, and welfare recipients, to a limited degree, via their
cheques. I'd like to increase the NON-POOR SENIOR rate to a rate similar to
that which students pay. BTW, I'm a senior in less than 4 years who may or
may not eventually qualify for the current city subsidy for seniors. To be
TRULY fair, all subsidies should not only be INCOME tested but also ASSET
tested. This would be a lot fairer but would be a bureaucratic nightmare to
enforce, although the provincial govt. claims to do it with AISH and social
assistance recipients.

family genetic problem
