One good thing about the US is you can find out a lot about autos. And many
dealers are now starting to get in the habit of "hiding" their prices.
Trust the Edmunds site for fair accurate data on this. There are always
deals.
http://www.edmunds.com/ is good to figure out what you should typically pay.
Often much less than MSRP.
You can visit http://www.carmax.com for some current pricing from them. They
do mean "no-haggle pricing", bought one from them in 2000.
There is also http://www.autonation.com/
If they bug your for a zip code, visit
http://zip4.usps.com/zip4/citytown.jsp and plug in the city and state you
figure on buying it in. It will list some plausible zip codes. Almost
every city has a Main Street.
I like Carmax, they put all the detail right in it including the VIN.
Camry, out of Chicago at Carmax, starts at:
2008 Toyota Camry LE (Auto) 4D Sedan $19,998 (MSRP Canada $25900)
Top end, loaded with the kitchen sink: (even has bluetooth!)
2008 Toyota Camry XLE V6 4D Sedan $28,998. (MSRP Canada $37,525)
* Canadian pricing from toyota.ca.
Lets look at a Land Cruiser:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_Land_Cruiser#Eighth_generation_.282008.E2.80.93present.29
says it was assembled in Japan. It may have duties on it. Carmax didn't
list it.
But can get a 4Runner from $27K basic to $38K loaded.
