Cheese is way cheaper but doesn't taste as good. Eggs are cheaper. Beer is

Happens in Canada too. http:://www.tvboxset.com is run out of Montreal with
a US web site. Just because it is on the Internet and in the US means
nothing. There are plenty of Canadian con artists. BTW, I don't recommend
tvboxset to anyone. Just a Canadian con.

That is a large part of the reason. If anything Canadian cars should be
cheaper as Canada does not have lemon law protection and wild legal
judgements.
Because our economy is effectively closed and often anti-business we suffer.
We did it to ourselves.
But remember NAFTA works for people too. Buy that next car in the US and
GST/DST does not apply on what you save which means you save more.

Commodity cheeses like Kraft, not much difference. Go for the specialty
ones in smaller farming centers. Gets quite good.
Beer, anything sin is cheaper in the US. In Canada SIN is taxed like
gasoline, often as high as 80%. Montana and Alabama prices are dirt cheap
compared to Canada. You can also import a case too. But have to add
federal and provincial cap taxes at the border.
But I like to focus on big stuff, cars, boats...save big bucks means saving
big on GST/PST.

You are totally full of bullshit. Even here in Alberta, with the lowest provincial taxes on gasoline in
the all ten provinces, I could save at LEAST $10 a tankful. You are so full of shit and a liar to boot.

No one in their right mind, unless they are a wage slave, wants to be ANYWHERE much before noon. It is

the dreadful drive on hwy 9 to Bangor...I now take the TC to Woodstock,
cross over there and take I-95 south. Faster crossing at Houlton too

Saving 50-60 cents in gas is very small. A 1 gallon motor bike maybe.
Trucks can hold 130L, typical fill of 100L. If I bought 100L @97.9 Alberta
price, versus 26.4 US gallons (100L) @ 2.80 US in Montana, and assume par,
that is $23.98 savings.
Your darn right I fill up on return and usually get into the states empty.
Cars usually hold half or a little more; so $10 savings is easy.

Don't know about New Brunswick but over here, at Superstore
(http://www.superstore.ca/east/ for New Brunswick), turkeys
are on special two weeks before each of the big "turkey
events", which are Canadian Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Grade A Canadian turkeys were indeed, and as expected, on
special two weeks before Thanksgiving here in the Vancouver
area at 88 cents a pound. Granted, there was a limit of one.
Since we needed two, one for my family and one for an
association I'm a member of, I had to buy one turkey, return
to the parking lot, drop the bird in the trunk of my car and
get back to the store to get the second one. Beats going all
the way to the US to save 9 cents a pound (based on your
quote of the US price).
This price of 88 cents a pound is for one week only and it
will most likely be repeated two weeks before Christmas. The
week just before Thanksgiving, turkeys were selling here for
$1.39 a pound.
Granted, I have a very large freezer and room for a few
frozen turkeys is not an issue for me.

The same auto product being made in Canada is less expensive in the US. As

Chevron uses the Techron additive. Ppl going to the States for fuel should
be aware that US gas has lower octane levels than the fuel sold here. I used
to put in Premium to compensate.
As for dragging the hose it can leave a rubber streak on the paint job of
the vehicle and in my experience it increases the chance of spilling
gasoline on the vehicle.

Well, over the years, I have gassed up at my local Superstore probably hundreds of times....with no

Well, my vehicle is WHITE and NEVER any marks. I have never spilled any fuel that way because the fuel
only flows when *I* pull the trigger on the control....nothing to do with the routing of the hose. One
shouldn't Start filling until the nozzle is all in and should remove the nozzle until trigger is off.

I don't know where you get that crap from. 87 octane is 87 octane. Might
have even came from the same refinery.
The only place I know that gasoline is sub-par in the US is around Chicago
where they cut it with methanol. But you can buy that crap here from
Mohawk. And fuel mileage does go down when you burn methanol.
In fact, I usually get better mileage on US roads. But I suspect it is
because most US cities and hiways are not enamoured with speed traps and
traffic lights.

Doubt it. Fact is by law in the US fuel of a lower octane level can be sold
to the public than is allowed in Canada.

Gas of a lower octane level than is allowed in Canada is sold throughout the

I've noticed more ppl drinking American beer. I used to buy the 24 packs of

: One pulls the hose out of
the pump, lifting it at the same : time. WHen it is fully extended, over
the vehicle, one lowers it as one inserts the nozzle into the : filler
tube. There is NO DRAGGING the hose over anything. I have never in almost
50 years of driving and : filling up EVER got ANY marks from hose.
*** Perhaps your trunk is narrow or flat enough.
Although, minor, there is the fact that the hose lies on the trunk
during filling and could transfer dirt to the finish.
Regardless, I am not discounting your method. However, for some your
method may not work. It won't for me because I drive a full-size van. I
*must* approach the pump so it is always on the filler tube side. Then
there are those with filler tube locations closer to the middle of the
vehicle. The hose would have to come over the roof. )-:

Richard, of course, with a full-sized van, as you know, there IS now trunk to pull the hose over.
Obviously, you don't have much of a choice. I had 64 Meteor, once, that had the gas filler cap behind the
license plate which was spring loaded and tiltable to allow access.

I can't recall the last time I saw a Meteor on the road. Sometimes those gas
caps behind the plates were very difficult and ppl used to cut their hands
on the metal edges.

Worst ruling ever. There was no such reasonable, responsible, nor
professional actions on their part. The tainted blood was on active
production and handed out to patients with THEIR knowledge for a over a
year, and yet they did nothing about it except collect their fat paychecks.

There are groups for html, but this is a text newsgroup. It is not up
to you to change its criteria. If one wants to join a text newsgroup,
that is the way it is.
I personally find html to be a nuisance when reading mail or news.
It would be annoying if every newspaper article was in a different font

I should add that another reason for the 76-or-under line length is to
allow room for quote symbols in long threads.

aspect of their computers and to actually let the computer do the
work instead of the computer making the user do it.
Be aware that the latest systems have command lines, so it's not about
turning back the clock. It's about what is the most efficient and speedy
way to do one's work. Eye candy just gets in the way.
: Revolution. I used to operate an IBM 360/25,

*** Sure, but once that was done, that work could be put into batch

Batch files mean the work only ever has to be done once.
In particular, I hate having to tree climb to locate a file on which to
do an operation. This has to happen for *every* file operation. With about
2,000 directories on my main system, it's easy to see how inefficient a
GUI would be.
I give demonstrations of my setups to various individuals and
organisations. Even major GUI supporters say it is way faster. My 500
